The hardest thing about cleaning a church facility professionally is not the cleaning itself. It is the scheduling. A corporate office runs on a predictable pattern. A church runs on a liturgical calendar, a pastoral discretion calendar, a wedding and funeral calendar, and a community event calendar that frequently change with less than a week’s notice.
Here is how we handle this for Lake Elmo and Washington County congregations.
The Monthly Calendar Process
By the 25th of each month, we ask your facilities contact to share the coming month’s event calendar. This does not need to be elaborate—a brief email listing any Saturday or Sunday events, funerals, special services, or rental events is sufficient. We build our cleaning schedule around that information.
Regular Services
Most congregations schedule their regular cleaning visit for Thursday or Friday morning before the weekend services. This timing produces the cleanest building for Sunday morning without creating a gap that allows significant accumulation if the building is used Saturday. A Monday visit handles the post-weekend reset. Some congregations with Wednesday programs add a third light visit mid-week.
Weddings
Weddings typically require a pre-event clean (sanctuary and restrooms, sometimes fellowship hall setup) and a post-event clean (full facility reset after the reception). These are usually priced as separate per-visit charges outside the regular contract. We confirm the scope and timing in writing before each wedding season starts.
Funerals
Funeral cleaning is time-sensitive in a different way: the family and community are often present at the facility repeatedly over a short window, and the condition of the building during that time matters emotionally, not just practically. We treat funeral cleaning requests as high-priority and respond to same-week requests where our schedule permits. If you have a congregation with an older membership and frequent funerals, discuss your average frequency at the quote stage so we can build it into the scope.
Holiday Services
Christmas Eve, Easter, and other high-attendance services create a cleaning situation where the building needs to be at its best for a congregation that may be twice its normal size. We coordinate additional pre-service cleaning visits for these services on request. We ask for at least two weeks’ notice to guarantee availability.
When Plans Change
Death, weather, and pastoral emergencies do not follow a calendar. We do our best to accommodate last-minute schedule changes. When we cannot, we tell you promptly so you can make other arrangements. We do not pretend a request is handled when it is not.
